QPIP 101 Training – April 15

25 March 2025
We are organizing an information evening, in French, for members of the Fédération du personnel de soutien scolaire (FPSS-CSQ) regarding the Quebec Parental Insurance Plan. It will take place virtually on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.
The objective of this training is to familiarize you with the Quebec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP) and to fully understand the rights and obligations related to parental leave under your collective agreement. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about this topic and ask any questions you may have. It will be given by Mélanie Michaud, Social Security Advisor at the CSQ.
- Subject: QPIP Training

Did you know that…
- The links and interactions between your collective agreement and the QPIP are sometimes complex?
- In some cases, preventive withdrawals or closely spaced pregnancies can affect your QPIP benefits.
- A drop in your employment income during a period of unemployment or job insecurity in general can also have adverse effects on your benefits. Can your CSQ union advise you on ways to mitigate or eliminate these negative effects (for example, sections 31.1 or 31.2 of the QPIP or the early start of a benefit period)?
- Does your collective agreement (like the Act respecting labour standards) allow a father to take up to three separate periods of leave in the year following the birth of his child?
Guides
CSQ Guide to Parental Rights and the QPIP (2016-2020). This guide is also available in print form from certain unions.
Guide to Parental Rights and the QPIP (English Version)
There is a form to fill out before meeting the union. We invite you to carefully read the “Guide”, make a note of your questions, then fill out this short form before contacting the person responsible for parental rights in your union. We believe this will make your appointment with this person more effective and beneficial.
Letter templates – FPSS Templates for letters to be sent to the employer
These are templates for letters to be sent to the employer requesting one of the leaves you are entitled to take under the collective agreement. All you have to do is enter the specific details of your request into this template (your coordinates and those of your employer, the dates of the leave, options, terms, etc.), then print and sign the letter. We strongly recommend that you send a copy to your union.
You will find all the terms and deadlines that need to be respected in the “Guide”.
