8 March 2026

On March 8, we celebrate International Women’s Day, an important moment to recognize the progress made and to remember that equality between women and men remains a goal to be pursued.

This year, the theme “Generations Standing Up” is inspired by the newspaper Québécoises deboutte! (Quebec Women Standing Up!), published more than 50 years ago by a movement of committed women. At the time, its words carried a powerful voice, a voice that refused to be silenced and demanded change for a more just society.

Today, “Generations Standing Up” is much more than a slogan: it is a call to action. A call to continue the efforts to build a more egalitarian, freer, and more inclusive society.

International Women’s Day also reminds us that hard-won rights are never definitively guaranteed. The progress made over the decades is real, but it remains fragile. Many challenges persist and require constant vigilance and commitment.

Women play a vital role in all aspects of society: in families, in the workplace, in communities, and in institutions. Every day, they make significant contributions to social, economic, and cultural development. Yet, their work and commitment are not always recognized for their true worth.

We have a collective responsibility to build a world where every woman and girl can live free from violence, discrimination, and marginalization.

On this International Women’s Day, let us take the time to highlight the progress made, acknowledge the challenges that remain, and renew our commitment to equality.

Because equality benefits all of society.

And because the future is built together, generations standing tall.
