Premier’s Resignation
After Premier François Legault announced his resignation, Éric Pronovost, President of the Fédération du personnel de soutien scolaire (FPSS-CSQ), acknowledged that “regardless of our differences, we must recognize his courage to engage in politics.”
As our government leadership enters a period of transition, the FPSS-CSQ reiterates that education must be placed at the heart of the next premier’s priorities. The demands of the education sector are clear, urgent, and unavoidable.
“The hiring freeze must be lifted immediately. Schools need staff to adequately meet students’ needs. The shortage of school support staff has significant impacts on violence prevention in our schools. It is imperative to reinvest in the renovation of existing schools and the construction of new ones.” “We need to reinvest in education, we need to stop micromanaging and trust the teams on the ground, and the legislation being proposed must be suspended immediately,” continued Éric Pronovost.
The FPSS-CSQ believes that education can no longer be relegated to the back burner. It is a fundamental pillar of equal opportunity and the development of Quebec society. “Education must become a true national priority,” concluded Éric Pronovost.
