The latest update to the Education Dashboard shows 1,864 vacancies for Educator in School Setting (ESS) and 752 for Special Education Technician (SET) across Quebec.\r\n\r\nFor the SSSF-CSQ, these figures are all the more worrying because they represent only part of the picture. The Federation represents 81 job categories, and the published data does not reveal the extent of the needs regarding support staff for Attendant for Handicapped Students, Student Supervisors, or administrative, technical, and manual support staff.\r\n\r\n\"Vacancies are not merely empty boxes in a chart. Behind each one lie services that go undelivered, students whose needs may not be adequately met, and staff members forced to shoulder additional pressure. We cannot accept that starting every school year with hundreds, or even thousands, of vacancies becomes the new normal in education,\" states \u00c9ric Pronovost, President of the SSSF-CSQ.\r\n\r\n<strong>Staffing levels no longer in the system<\/strong>\r\n\r\nComparing current staffing levels with those at the end of the last school year also raises questions. An analysis of data from the Education Dashboard reveals that 834 SET positions and 632 EES positions are no longer available compared to the end of last year, even though the needs remain.\r\n\r\nThe SSSF-CSQ points out that when a school is short-staffed, the entire school team feels the impact. Students see a reduction in services or a decline in how well their needs are met, while other staff members must cope with added pressure.\r\n\r\n\"When teams are incomplete, we spend too much time managing emergencies rather than focusing on prevention. That is the exact opposite of what we should be aiming to achieve in our schools.
