Teaching Licenses for Day Care Educators

The new regulation on teaching licences has just been adopted. The Fédération du personnel de soutien scolaire (FPSS-CSQ) has sent its reactions to this legislation to the Minister of Education.

From now on, Day Care Educators, Special Education Technician and Social Work Technician will be able to teach in day care services as long as they meet certain conditions. These are the conditions:

1. The person has been enrolled in a preschool and primary education training program recognized since September 2001 and has accumulated at least nine credits in this program, including three credits in psychopedagogy, three credits in didactics of a subject in the preschool education Régime pédagogique, in primary and secondary education, as well as three other credits on classroom management or intervention with handicapped students or students with social maladjustments or learning difficulties;

2. The person has a college diploma in Early Childhood Education and 3,000 hours of relevant work experience as an educator or teacher in preschool education;

3. The person has a promise of employment from an employer stating that they will be given a job as a preschool teacher in the current school year, a job that cannot be filled by a person with a teaching license.

Period of validity

The period of validity of a provisional authorization is for not more than four years.

This period of validity is combined with a minimum number of credits required to meet the minimum credit and internship requirements.

This authorization can be renewed.

On the other hand, there is the problem of a shortage of school day care educators that the government will still need to solve. The FPSS-CSQ will continue its representations on this subject.
